One of our members made a wonderful VE Day cake for our VE Day party following our Annual Meeting.
The VE Day Cake isn’t just a dessert—it’s a tribute. It harks back to the joyous, if modest, feasts of 1945, when people gathered in war-ravaged towns and cities to celebrate peace. During wartime rationing, ingredients like sugar, butter, and eggs were scarce, so early VE Day cakes were often simple sponge cakes made with ingenuity and ration coupons
